Laer School Swellendam "Swellies" is awarded a schools blue plaque

Education in Swellendam  has a long history which mirrors the history of the town itself. From the Oefeningshuis built in 1838 to the recently enlarged and consolidated Laer school.

Schooling has moved through several buildings and changes but remains a strong part of the community. From the Bontebok Primary school, the Laer School "SWellies" through to he High School with its hostel for learners from out of town.

The Swellendam Heritage Association acknowledges . the importance of these schools with a Heritage Blue plaque so the learners of today can see the importance of education and their part in a great tradition.
